Spring Into Action

There is a tree on Wimbledon Common which stands in the middle of the fairway of one of the golf course holes. I have always been struck by its shape and the way its presence dominates the landscape in all seasons and weather. It seems to possess a sense of independence and confidence that almost suggests to the golfer wanting to hit the green "you will have to go round me".  In this abstract landscape painting, I've sought to capture that defiant spirit and have used a mixture of expressive marks to this end. The artwork – combining brushstrokes and palette knife gestures with acrylic pastes and gels – is a mixed-media piece on box canvas. It can be hung without the need for a frame, making it ideal original art for your wall .
